UNPROTO.sys Version 8.0
APRS sets your ALIAS to RELAY and your Unproto path to APRS VIA RELAY so that
all NEW users report their position via their neighbors. This should only be
TEMPORARY until you find your best DIGI (or neighbor), then use his exact CALL
not RELAY. Mature APRS nets have good, WIDEly spaced digi's that have dual
aliases of WIDE/RELAY and sometime TRACE and their state abbreviation. Mobiles
can use the path of RELAY,WIDE and still go through the digi or via someone's
home station. Smaller, or intermediate digis should only be RELAYs. FIXED
stations should rarely use RELAY in their path since users midway between any
two RELAYS will ALWAYS hear collisions. Hit TAB to show your current path.
FIXED STNS - Defaults to RELAY,WIDE. But then please select specific calls
- Never use WIDE,RELAY or RELAY anywhere except the 1st hop
TRACE - Use TRACE,TRACE,TRACE.. for DX or TRACEn-n for N hops
MOBILES - Mobiles should go via RELAY,WIDE
ON HF - Set path to via GATE,WIDE to be GATEd into EVERY VHF network.
To hit a specific VHF net, use GATE,DIGIname.
Do NOT digipeat on HF unless its an emergency
The OPS-DIGI command can save up to 12 different paths for quick access.
